Debbie Mayhew of Pittsgrove recently celebrated 10 years of volunteering with Meals on Wheels of Salem County.
She relayed this about her volunteer experience.
“I originally started doing Meals on Wheels when I worked for First National Bank of Elmer. When I retired I continued to do it on my own because I knew how much they needed the volunteers and it was my way of helping. I asked my dad if he wanted to ride with me just to get him out of the house and he did. After delivering to a couple of people when we got back in the truck he looked at me and said those poor souls are really up there in age. I laughed to myself because at the time my dad was probably 84. He has since not been able to help because he’s had back surgery and not able to walk real well.“
Thank you Debbie for delivering more than a meal.
