Jeri Waters is currently our longest active volunteer with 43 years of service. She was part of the initial volunteers when Meals on Wheels of Salem County started in 1977. She was a member of the Woodstown Jr. Women’s Club and the founding members asked the group to volunteer delivering the meals. She decided to help out because she knew that it was important for the elderly or sick to get a nutritious meal. She says it makes her feel good to do something for those in need or less fortunate than herself.
Jeri was even able to recruit her mother-in-law, Ann, to deliver with her after she moved to New Jersey from Florida in 1999. Ann continued to deliver meals into her 90’s until she passed in 2003. Jeri still misses Ann when she is out on the road, volunteering together was a great bonding experience.
We are extremely grateful that Jeri has dedicated so much of her life to supporting MOW and the seniors of Salem County. Thank you for delivering more than a meal.
