Kathy and George Smalley of Pennsville started delivering meals after retirement. Kathy’s grandmother was a recipient of meals and she was very impressed with the patience and care she received from the volunteers. “I determined I would pay it forward when I retired. Individuals who have the time to volunteer should contribute to their communities. It is especially important to remember that those who are elderly, disabled and without a support system from family are particularly vulnerable to depression, home accidents and early death with someone who cares about them.”
“Volunteering for an organization like MOW doesn’t require a great deal of time. I have chosen to fill in when routes need substitutes. It is a great way to get to know a community of people that go unseen and are grateful for your visit. It is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences in which I have been involved.”
