Happy #ThankfulThursday!
Thank you to Michelle for delivering more than just a meal! Michelle began volunteering for Meals on Wheels after our Volunteer Coordinator spoke at her church regarding the need for drivers. Because the need for drivers was in Pennsville where Michelle has lived for over 45 years, she felt that she had to sign up and give back. She has been delivering for Meals on Wheels for four years now as well as volunteering to help out at the Giant Pumpkin Carve and other fundraising events and we are so grateful for her help! Michelle sees the difference that a hot meal and a friendly face makes for the clients and feels that she benefits from this interaction as well. She has even taken in a stray cat from a client and still has her cat, Pumpkin, to this day! One of the clients that Michelle delivers to has a daughter that is a nurse. When Michelle’s mom fell and broke her hip, the client’s daughter was the nurse that took care of her. Being able to help the client while the client’s daughter helped her mom felt like a really nice way to be able to give back.
When Michelle is not volunteering, she works as an interior decorator and also enjoys bird watching, watching the Phillies play, and trips to Cape May and Disney. She is a melanoma and thyroid cancer survivor and lives in Pennsville with her husband of 24 years and their two cats, Henry and Pumpkin.
If you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer for 2 hours, once every four weeks as a driver as well, or how you can volunteer at our annual Giant Pumpkin Carve, please call our office at 856-935-3663.
