Thank you to Rhonda for delivering more than just a meal! Rhonda always wanted to deliver for Meals on Wheels but was busy with raising her family and was unable to volunteer. When her first grandchild was born in 2009, she began babysitting and decided that it was time to start volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Rhonda happily brought along her granddaughter on meal deliveries and, as more grandchildren were born, she brought them along as well! Delivering Meals on Wheels is important to her because she gets to meet members of her community that she probably would not otherwise ever meet. She says how much of a pleasure it is to visit with everyone and get to know them especially since, for many people, it may be the only face that they see throughout their day. She also describes delivering meals by saying, “As much as I want to be a blessing to them, I always come away feeling blessed.”
Rhonda describes her fondest memories of delivering to our departed client, Rita, whom she would always save for last on her deliveries so that she could visit with her for longer. She describes her memories of visits by saying, “She had such an interesting life. She had funny, heart breaking, and amazing stories of raising her family. My grand kids loved Rita and couldn’t wait to visit with her and lay upside down on her old, soft couch as we listened to her stories. They still talk about their memories of Rita.” Rhonda believes that her grandchildren are all future volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels and that it is important to teach them to serve and care for others. She describes being a part of Meals on Wheels as a pleasure and a blessing to her but we believe that we are the lucky ones to have volunteers like Rhonda!
