Susan Sickler of Pilesgrove recently marked her 20th year of delivering meals. When her children were young and just starting school she was working part time in her family’s business. She read that Meals on Wheels was in need of volunteers. She said the idea of delivering meals to elderly and disabled strangers made her uncomfortable because she is a timid person. She wasn’t able to stop thinking about volunteering and kept seeing the ad over and over again. Susan said “I figured the Lord was sending me a message and I couldn’t ignore it any longer.”
As it turns out, the MOW Director at the time, Sharon Sparks, was actually Susan’s cousin so she finally made the call. Sharon took her out on her first delivery and 20 year later she is still volunteering.
Susan continued with this insight, “Our seniors deserve a hot meal and a friendly visit. It gives them something to look forward to everyday and it makes me happy and grateful to be able to do it.“
Thank you Susan for delivering more than a meal.
